Walk and Talk Therapy: Integrating Nature into Psychotherapy
Walk and Talk Therapy is an innovative approach that combines the therapeutic benefits of psychotherapy with the rejuvenating effects of nature. Integrating nature into psychotherapy through walk-and-talk therapy offers a holistic path to mental wellness, promoting both physical and emotional well-being.
The benefits of nature for our physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual well-being are well-documented and have recently been embraced by mainstream medicine through initiatives like the 'Green Prescription' and 'Woodlands for Health' programs. According to the HSE, the Green Prescription highlights that engaging in nature-based activities leads to positive physical and mental health outcomes. Integrating nature into psychotherapy is a relatively new and exciting development, offering a holistic approach to healing.

How it works
Therapist and client take advantage of the natural environment to enhance the healing process by conducting sessions outdoors.
This method encourages physical movement, which can help reduce anxiety and increase mental clarity, while the serene surroundings of nature provide a calming backdrop for discussing personal challenges. The informal setting fosters a sense of ease, often making it easier for clients to open up and engage in meaningful conversation.
What to expect
We will first explore the outdoors and engage with nature. We do this to energise the senses and help the mind to become more present and aware of the now.
Therapist always aims to work with what is best for client and their needs. Which means we can spend as little time or as long outside.
Afterward, we will move into the therapy room for a short reflection.
Fee for walk and talk therapy is €65.
Forest Bathing
Forest bathing, also known as Shinrin-Yoku, is a therapeutic practice that involves immersing yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest. Originating in Japan, this wellness activity encourages mindfulness and a deep connection with nature. By slowly walking through the forest, you can reduce stress, enhance mood, and boost overall well-being. The serene environment and natural beauty help to calm the mind, lower blood pressure, and improve immune function. At Present Tree Therapy, our guided forest bathing sessions provide a perfect opportunity to unplug, rejuvenate, and experience the healing benefits of nature firsthand.
Forest Bathing: What to Expect
When you embark on a forest bathing experience, expect a journey of deep relaxation and connection with nature. The session typically begins with a gentle, guided walk through a serene forest setting, led by a trained guide who will provide various invitations to help you engage your senses fully. You'll be encouraged to slow down, breathe deeply, and notice the sights, sounds, and smells around you. Activities may include mindful walking, sitting quietly to observe your surroundings, and guided meditations to enhance your sense of presence. The goal is to immerse yourself in the natural environment, allowing the forest's tranquillity to soothe your mind, reduce stress, and rejuvenate your spirit. Each session often concludes with a sharing circle and a tea ceremony, fostering a sense of community and reflection.

Forest Therapy
Forest therapy is an evidence-based practice that combines the healing benefits of nature with therapeutic techniques to address mental and physical health issues. Unlike forest bathing, which is primarily about relaxation, forest therapy involves guided interactions with the natural environment to target specific health concerns. This approach enhances emotional well-being, reduces stress, and fosters a sense of connection and peace. At Present Tree Therapy, our forest therapy sessions, led by experienced guides, invite you to engage deeply with the forest through mindful activities, sensory exploration, and reflective exercises, promoting holistic healing and personal growth.
